Life from the Dead – What is that, anyway?

On the one hand, it’s a movement.  Over the past several decades millions of people from all over the world have become serious followers of Yeshua the Messiah (Jesus).  And a vast number of them are Jewish people – like the person writing this short note.  But that shouldn’t really come as a surprise.  All of the first followers of Jesus were His fellow Jews.  They believed, “We’ve found the One of whom Moses and the prophets wrote.”

On the other hand, it’s an experience.  If you were to ask any number of us the difference that believing in Yeshua has made in our lives, we’d tell you that it’s nothing short of life from the dead.  Jesus Himself said, “I have come that they might have life!”

But maybe most importantly of all, Life from the Dead is a truth.  You could say that it’s good news and bad news.  The bad news is that we’re “dead in our trespasses,” which is a fancy way of saying that we’re cut off from the meaningful, authentic life that God wants each one of us to possess, because we’ve turned our backs on Him.  But the good news is that He takes us back when we turn around.  Then, He gives us the gift of eternal life, which is a real, intimate relationship with Him, now and for all of eternity.  That’s why David, an ancient Jewish king could say, “Goodness and mercy will follow me all the days of my life, and I will dwell in the house of the Lord forever.”

Perhaps your own life sometimes feel more dead than alive.  It doesn’t have to
